Depression Recovery Groups (DRG), which offers online peer-to-peer support groups to individuals all over the world who suffer from depression, bi-polar disorder, and anxiety, this week launched online sessions specifically addressing depression and anxiety in teens and college-age individuals.
Facilitating for DRG several support groups as well as the one-on-one online coaching for young people, is Jeff Malderez. Malderez himself successfully recovered from psychosis in his late teens, and went on to write in 2010 his first book, The Canary: A Journey Through Psychosis.
Frequently teens who suffer from depression, bi-polar disorder and/or anxiety feel isolated, turn to alcohol and/or drugs to relieve their angst, which can bring forth an entire set of issues and challenges to overcome. Malderez is living testimony that recovery is possible. Now 33 and married, Malderez says one of the biggest concerns teens face is that they justifiably are fearful of being labeled forever as mentally ill. In his book, he notes to those who suffer from teenage depression, bi-polar disorder and anxiety, "You are a canary, a sensitive soul who experiences shifts in consciousness.... Don't define who you are and your entire being with a label."
Vincent Caimano, founder and CEO of DRG, says: "Depression mixed with the normal but significant changes and pressures young people experience is a very challenging combination. Too often depression sufferers feel that their experiences are unique and they tend to isolate themselves from others. Our support groups provide encouragement and useful information, and help people to know that they are not alone."
Currently, first-time visitors to http://www.depressionrecoverygroups.com can attend an initial online peer-to-peer support group (90 minutes) for free. Subsequent meetings cost only $7.99 each. One-on-one 45 minute coaching sessions are available for $26.95.
All of the online peer-to-peer support groups available at http://www.depressionrecoverygroups.com are facilitated by trained Group Leaders. Information technology customized by DRG assures confidentiality - with online sessions assuring privacy and security. Participants can choose to be anonymous if they prefer.
