Samueli Institute, a recognized leader in integrative medicine research, is a sponsor for the upcoming Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care (IPFCC) 5th International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care to be held in Washington, DC, June 4-6, 2012. Samueli Institute is offering a special track on mind-body programs. Research suggests the development of mind-body skills can improve one's ability to withstand and recover from the stresses of illness and trauma or the stresses of caregiving, thereby reducing long-term reliance on the healthcare system. The Samueli Institute mind-body track will empower families and patients, in both civilian and military settings, to harness their own innate power to heal and care for themselves and their loved ones.

In a series of three workshops given over three days, Samueli Institute will share effective strategies for creating, implementing, and evaluating mind-body programs and practices within a patient- and family-centered context. Experts in mind-body skills, program evaluation, and patient- and family-centered care and program delivery will present commissioned papers, lead discussion panels, and showcase their work. Participants attending this special track will gain insight into:

• The benefits of patient- and family-centric mind-body programs
• The barriers and facilitators to implementing and sustaining these types of programs,
• How to develop effective metrics and best practices for evaluating mind-body patient- and family-centered programs, and
• Assessing the cost-effectiveness of mind-body programs in a patient- and family-centered context.
