Toronto, Ontario (MMD Newswire) -- Smartphones and apps like Instagram have changed the way the world takes and shares photos. Canadian app developer Ian Tuason, Founder of Barrel Man Apps Inc., is hoping to encapsulate the iPhone photo-snapping generation in one image with the Revolution Mosaic app.
"We are the first of our kind - an entire generation connected by our mobile phones," says Ian Tuason, "We must leave our mark with future generations. We have to let them know where and when the mobile craze all started, which is here and now."
Barrel Man Apps is launching the highly anticipated Revolution Mosaic app this May 31st , 2012. In the last two months leading up the launch, articles about the app have already been written in notable publications including Mashable and The Next Web.
Upon launch, the app will allow iPhone users from around the world to submit their photos to create a gigantic photo mosaic image. A photo mosaic image compiles a large group of photos, using each photo as a color cell to create an even larger image. Once 360,000 photos are submitted, 1 of the submitted photos will be chosen to form the final mosaic image. This image will be chosen based on its depiction of the mobile generation. The final mosaic will then be turned into a 48" by 72" mural poster that can be viewed and purchased through the app, the website, or in commercial art galleries.
In its early stages of development, the Revolution Mosaic project and Barrel Man Apps has attracted attention of angel investors around the world, ultimately securing seed funding from European venture incubator, 99 Fahrenheit.
"We are very interested in ideas that can change the world, and we believe Revolution Mosaic has that kind of potential" says Luca Longobardi, Founder and CEO of 99 Fahrenheit. "With Revolution Mosaic, one can upload a photo to Revolution Mosaic like leaving a testimonial to the world, screaming YES, I am a part of this movement!"
Both Barrel Man Apps and 99 Fahrenheit view the idea of crowdsourcing photo mosaics like collecting signatures for a global petition that will last forever.
"I'm excited about the future of Revolution Mosaic," continues Longobardi. We envision a Summer Olympics Mosaic, or a Green Peace Mosaic. We envision mosaics being created to raise social awareness, and to unite cultures. And we envision all of this being possible because of one powerful tool that is changing the world as we know it - the mobile phone."
