Barcelona (MMD Newswire) May 23, 2012 -- The Vocabulary Trainer was developed with the objective to take the stress out of vocabulary learning and make it a pleasant experience while applying the techniques which in vocabulary learning research were found to accelerate vocabulary learning. Research on language learning techniques has consistently shown that the traditional approach to teaching vocabulary in the classroom is highly inefficient, as stated in the book "Teaching Vocabulary" by Prof. Paul Nation, one of the leading scholars on vocabulary leaning. The Vocabulary Trainer integrates the following learning techniques :1) Repeating new words in progressively increasing time intervals, frequently referred to as "spaced repetitions".
2) Multi-sensoric presentation of new words. The student simultaneously listens to the word, sees the spelling of the word, and also sees an image associated with the word.
3) Relaxation. Learning and retention is highly improved if the student is relaxed. This can be achieved with relaxing music, a key characteristic of the "SuperLearning" approach, but also by providing a personalized learning pace.
The 5000 most frequent words in 10 major languages are already now available at the time of the launch with further languages to be added. All words are ranked based on frequency in "real-world" language usage with the most frequent words taught first. It is adaptable to any language level.
The vocabulary trainer was designed as an open learning platform that makes it easy to add one's own vocabulary lists or any other kind of flashcard sets and share them with others. As a complementary tool to language classes, it enables both language teachers and language students to make the most out of limited available class time.
