Freak Elevator Accident Crushes Woman Reports Litigation Funding Corporation, Michigan
Published:

Southfield, MI (Law Firm Newswire) May 28, 2012 - There is no delicate way to report this horrific case. A woman was crushed by an elevator.

“This accident was one of the most ghastly and sickening events first responders had even seen. A 41-year-old advertising executive met her death while getting on to an elevator in her building. As she was about halfway in, the car abruptly shot up about 20 feet, with its doors wide open. The woman was crushed between the elevator and the shaft wall,” said Darren Monroe of Litigation Funding Corporation, Michigan.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation was promptly launched into what had happened to cause the elevator to act in that manner. The investigation was a joint affair between the City of New York’s Department of Investigation and Department of Buildings. “The long and short of it,” explained Monroe, “was that workers had been performing maintenance on the elevator that morning, until just a few minutes prior to the accident.”

It turned out that a safety circuit, whose reason for being was to prevent the car from moving with its doors open, had been overridden with a jumper cable. The workers needed the doors open in order to do their work. What they did not seem to comprehend was the elevator was not safe, and if there were no signs posted, this woman unsuspectingly walked into a death trap.

“There are many unanswered questions, not the least of which is whether there were warning signs on each floor. The Department of Buildings will be looking into what other, if any, safety violations may have played a part in this woman’s shocking demise. There is no question negligence played a large role in this wrongful death,” added Monroe.

It is highly likely that the woman’s family would want to file a wrongful death lawsuit, in part to ensure that something like this never happens again. It would take a lot of courage to pursue this legal avenue, as the constant reminder of how she died would forever haunt those who loved her. In taking the case to court, the family may find themselves financially strapped for cash, and need a way to be able to pay their bills. They may be interested in making enquiries about lawsuit funding.

“If you have hired a lawyer and are trying to access litigation funding, we offer non-recourse lawsuit loans to help you out financially, while your lawsuit is pending. Non-recourse simply means that if you lose your case, you own absolutely nothing. You will find that pre-settlement funding is easy to apply for and may be done online or by calling our offices,” Monroe added.

The strategic advantage of litigation funding is that helps the plaintiff find the financial support to wait for a reasonable offer from the insurance company or defendant. There is no reason to accept a settlement for less than a case is worth.
