OnlineParentingPrograms.com today announced that Judith Myers-Walls, Ph.D., CFLE, experienced evaluator and creator of web-based outreach efforts geared towards parents, child care providers, professionals, and researchers, was appointed to the company's board of directors, completing the list of board members.

Before retiring from her faculty position, Judith worked for over 30 years with the Cooperative Extension Service at Purdue University to bring research-based information to the public and prepare professionals to deliver curricula she and others had developed. Her special interests are in parenting education content and delivery methods, high-risk parenting situations, and the impact of war and peace on families and children.

Judith is now Professor Emerita of Child Development and Family Studies. Her research in recent years has concentrated primarily on how parents and children talk about difficult topics, especially disasters and war and peace (Purple Wagon Web site). Judith has also spent a significant amount of effort on examining the cultural context of child development and parenting, including taking several groups of students to India for study abroad.

"Judith brings a wealth of experience related to dealing with conflict, ranging from sharing research-based information, recommendations, and activities to help children understand political violence, to discussing how to help children cope with fears and sadness when groups are in conflict, to learning how to make peace," said Lori LaVigne, Education Director for OnlineParentingPrograms.com.

Judith came from a background in psychology and special education. She received her Master's and doctoral degrees from Child Development and Family Studies (CDFS) at Purdue University and joined, that department (now called Human Development and Family Studies) in 1979 as a full-time faculty member with the title of Assistant and then Associate Professor and Extension Specialist, translating research for the general public and for family professionals. For several years she also taught in the college classroom.
