The Rottenstein Law Group, which represents clients with injuries allegedly resulting from their use of medical devices and prescription drugs including the Type 2 diabetes drug Actos, is hereby alerting the public to the most recent research paper substantiating the link between Actos and bladder cancer, which was published in the British Medical Journal on May 31, 2012.
Based on a team of Canadian researchers' analysis of statistics from the U.K. National Health Service, the BMJ paper concludes that individuals with Type 2 diabetes who had taken pioglitazone (the generic name for Actos) had an 83% higher risk of contract, according to a June 2, 2012, article on the study that appeared on the web site redOrbit.com.
Led by Dr. Laurent Azoulay of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, the researchers examined the records of more than 115,000 patients who were at least 40 years old, the redOrbit.com article explains. A total of 470 of those patients were diagnosed with bladder cancer. The likelihood of an Actos user developing bladder cancer increased with the length of time the patient was on Actos and the strength of the patient's dosage, with the highest rate observed in patients who took pioglitazone for more than 24 months and in patients with a cumulative dosage of more than 28 000 mg, according to the abstract that appears at the beginning of the BMJ research paper.
The Rottenstein Law Group urges anyone who has suffered adverse side effects from taking Actos or any other medication to speak to a qualified personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. The Rottenstein Law Group maintains an Actos Lawsuit Information page on its website at http://www.rotlaw.com. The Rottenstein Law Group's site has features that allow for easy sharing, including links for automatic posting on Facebook and Twitter, specifically to enable visitors to spread the word about the dangers of Actos.
