HOW TO GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP WITH JUST FOUR INCHES OF TAPE
RENOWNED ENT SPECIALIST DR. MURRAY GROSSAN SUGGESTS ROLL OF 1/2" TAPE TO SOLVE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS
Mission Hills, CA (
PRBuzz) June 8, 2012 -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than 40 million persons are not getting the minimum six hours of good sleep every night. As a result, they report an epidemic of drowsiness that is causing serious injuries and health problems. At least 20% of all traffic accidents are due to the drowsiness that comes from lack of good sleep. Lack of sleep is linked to obesity, hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. It is a major cause of serious industrial injuries.
Renowned ENT specialist, Dr. Murray Grossan, knows how important a good night's sleep is for good health and he has a natural solution to the problem that has helped many of his patients: It's a simple roll of 1/2 inch tape available at any pharmacy.
Dr. Grossan explains the reason why this simple remedy works: many people as they age, lose fat under the skin of the nose. When this happens over the bridge of the nose, the tip of the nose will droop and literally, come down. When this happens, it affects an area called the nasal valve. Dr. Grossan suggests that patients look in the mirror to see if they have a dip where the cartilage of the nasal tip moves up and down.
Explains Dr. Grossan, "If you move the nasal tip down, this blocks the airway. If you lift the tip of the nose up, this opens that valve and increases the opening to the airway. Any condition that blocks good nasal breathing can impair good sleep and result in snoring. "
For example, when someone has a cold, and if the nose/airway is blocked, they will probably not have a good night's sleep. Similarly, when the nose is blocked during the allergy season, it is hard to achieve what is considered "good sleep."
For most conditions like sinusitis, post nasal drip, and allergy, the nasal problem is taken care of by pulse wave irrigation. Irrigation with the Hydro PulseĀ® works by removing bacteria and pollen and restoring nasal cilia function. This helps to reduce snoring, as well
However, when the tip of the nose comes down and narrows that valve, the nose can be blocked in sleep, even when the nose is otherwise clear.
Dr Grossan suggests that patients who think they may have this problem follow this advice: "With your finger, gently raise the tip of your nose from underneath. If this improves breathing then, at night, cut a strip of about four inches or less of tape, place the lower end of the tape at the underside of the nose, the flat part that doesn't block the openings, and when it is secure, lift the tip up just enough to open the nose, then secure the upper part of the tape to the middle bridge of your nose." It is important to test for the best position; however, it is not necessary to raise the tip excessively so that it feels uncomfortable.
Dr. Grossan encourages those who are not getting a good night's sleep due to nose/airway blockage, to try this natural, holistic method. The innovative doctor confirms that 60% of his patients who have reported sleep problems have had success with this "tape" method. "
It is necessary to use medical grade tape and definitely not duct tape. Applying tape repeatedly can irritate the skin, and medical grade tape is particularly non- allergenic.
States Dr. Grossan, "I became aware of this solution when my rhinoplasty patients remarked that they were sleeping much better since I fixed their droopy tip for cosmetic purposes."
Other causes of sleep problems, such as weak throat muscles, can also be helped by throat exercises and throat massage from pulse wave irrigation.
