Launches "Super Fan" contest - enter to win a trip to the Games!
OTTAWA, May 22, 2012 /CNW/ - Hey Canada, share your pride and show your passion! With just 100 days until the start of competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games (Aug. 29 to Sept. 9), the Canadian Paralympic Committee is attending special events and launching a Facebook contest today, looking for the ultimate "Super Fan" to win a trip to the Games.
Inspired by the CPC's recently launched "Super Athletes" marketing campaign, the "Super Fan" contest asks users to come up with a creative nickname, photo, and brief description on what makes them a Canadian Paralympic Super Fan.
Entries receive votes through LIKES on Facebook. The Super Fan with the highest number of votes on their entry will be sent to London, England with tickets to the Opening Ceremony, Paralympic events and spending money!
And that's not all on this exciting day! Across Canada:
The Canadian Paralympic Team, which will be announced in August 2012, will include approximately 150 athletes competing in 15 sports. Team Canada's Chef de Mission, Dr. Gaétan Tardif (Toronto, ON), celebrates the "100 days to go" milestone with athletes in Toronto today.
"More than ever, it's about peak performance," notes Dr. Tardif. "After a lifetime of preparation and training, our athletes are about to encounter the strongest Paralympic field ever assembled and they are ready to meet the challenge."
Assistant Chef de Mission, Elisabeth Walker-Young (Vancouver BC), meets with athletes in Vancouver today and urges Canadians to follow their team.
"Canada, let's not have that Canadian fire and spirit from the Vancouver 2010 Games waver," says Walker-Young. "The athletes knew you were cheering for them. As an athlete, one's goals have been set in place for a long time and knowing that Canadians are behind you makes reaching and succeeding in those goals ever more attainable and real."
