ILG Energy: New Fracking Rules Shake Up Oil and Gas Industry
The federal government has recently unveiled a new set of regulations concerning fracking--and oil and gas companies are struggling to keep up with these updated rules. A company called ILG Energy is seeking to help them.
New Orleans, LA (PRBuzz.com) May 22, 2012 -- For years now, the practice of fracking has been a contentious one, inspiring fierce arguments between energy companies and environmental groups. Many oil and gas companies contend that fracking is an efficient and relatively clean way to obtain natural gas; "green" activists, meanwhile, contend that the harmful environmental effects of fracking outweigh its potential good. After a season of debate, the federal government has decided on a set of rules to regulate fracking--and many see it as a reasonable compromise between the energy industry and the environmentalist movement. Still, some energy companies are finding it difficult to keep up with these new regulations--but a company called ILG Energy is seeking to change that.
The Obama Administration's new regulations concern environmental safety standards, with regard to hydraulic fracking on federal lands. It is expected that, if successful, the rules could be extended to other lands, as well.
Specifically, the new rules relate to the common concern that hydraulic fracking contaminates groundwater. The federal regulations will dictate that certain standards be upheld in building wells and also testing water quality, among other things.
According to Joel Gremillion, of ILG Energy, the new standards need not be burdensome to energy companies. "There is a tendency, whenever new federal regulations are made, to despair, to think that the energy industry is losing its freedom or its efficiency," he says, in a statement to the press. "However, these guidelines are excellent ways of ensuring that everyone is safe and that the environment is cared for, without really diminishing the capacity of hydraulic fracking to produce energy as efficiently as possible."

"Our business is devoted to helping energy companies acquire the land they need for production," Gremillion continues. "That's what ILG Energy does, all day every day. These new regulations might change the way some of this land can be used, however, and we want to do everything we can to make our clients more aware of that, and to help them adapt accordingly."
