Operation Honor Wall Observes Military Appreciation Month
May 23, 2012 (MMD Newswire) -- The month of May was designated by Congress as National Military Appreciation month, recognizing those on active duty in all branches of the services, the National Guard and Reserves plus retirees, veterans, and all of their families. After more than 230 years of our nation's history, over 90 million Americans have served in uniform.

National Military Appreciation Month in May of 2012 includes Loyalty Day (1st), Military Spouse Appreciation Day (11th), VE Day (8th), Armed Forces Day (19th), all leading up to Memorial Day (30th).

VeteransPlus, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization providing financial education to active duty and former military personnel and their families have established "Operation Honor Wall" [ www.operationhonorwall.org ] as a vehicle for Americans to express their appreciation to those who have worn the uniform. "This project honors, remembers, recognizes and appreciates all military personnel; those men and women who have served throughout our history and all who now serve in uniform and their families as well as those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our freedoms we all enjoy today" said VeteransPlus Executive Director, John Pickens.

During National Military Appreciation Month, a number of business leaders have stepped-up to help promote Operation Honor Wall, including Ryder, Sysco Houston, Clear Channel, Chili's, Checkers, Rally's, CACI, Werner Enterprises and Pfizer. These businesses have joined with nonprofit organizations, such as Student Veterans of America, National Military Family Association, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, and the Gary Sinise Foundation to give everyone an opportunity to personally say thank you in their own way...via the Web site, Twitter or Facebook.

"We not only appreciate the support of these great nonprofits and businesses during Military Appreciation Month, but these are organizations that support our armed forces, Veterans and their families every day in so many other ways. Their participation in Operation Honor Wall will give millions of Americans an opportunity to say thank you those who have served by visiting the Honor Wall via the website, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube" said Chris Fitzpatrick, VeteransPlus Director for Strategic Partnerships.

About VeteransPlus

VeteransPlus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that teaches service members, veterans and their families the skills necessary to better manage their finances, get control of their debt and learn how to save and invest for their futures and for their children's futures. Whether they are presently deployed overseas or completed their service many years ago, VeteransPlus is available to help them manage their financial lives.

On November 11, 2011 VeteransPlus launched the online Yellow Ribbon Registry Network (YRRN) as a centralized source and clearinghouse where service members and Veterans can fill out just one request for help and have their application quickly submitted to numerous nonprofit partners. The result is a streamlined process that efficiently connects those in need with programs offering support. Through the YRN, partner organizations including: USA Cares; Rebuild Hope; CredAbility; Soldiers Angels; Our Forgotten Warriors; Our Heroes Journey; Blue Star Families; Final Salute; TAMCO Foundation; Freedom Is Not Free and the PenFed Foundation can communicate and collaborate like never before. An additional feature of the Network allows individual citizens to provide donations directly to the service member, Veteran or family in need of assistance.

"We realized that the problem is not a lack of concern or support for our nation's heroes" said Chris Fitzpatrick, VeteransPlus Deputy Director and Director for Strategic Partnerships. "The problem was that up until now no one group has stepped up to efficiently coordinates the flow of assistance from Americans who want to help, among the nonprofits committed to serving those who have served us and to America's service members and Veterans who need assistance. On the Yellow Ribbon Registry Network we can all come together to help warriors gain the financial freedom they have fought to defend. "
