Renaissance, one of the premier private clubs located on Boston's North Shore, and a finalist for the National Golf Course Owners Association 2012 'Course of the Year,' is dropping the words "Golf Club" from its official name.
Why? Because Renaissance is now much more than just a golf club. With the recent groundbreaking on a new $1.5 million swim and tennis facility, Renaissance now offers full social, sports and golf membership opportunities. The new name encompasses the broad scope of offerings at the club, including a 60,000-gallon pool, two DecoTurf Tennis Courts and a headquarters for their kids' sports camp, Camp Renaissance.
"We are proud to offer members a world-class membership experience," said David Southworth, President and CEO of Southworth Development. He continued, "Upon completion of the new offerings, Renaissance will be so much more than just a golf club, and we believe the club's name should reflect that."
Mike McGillicuddy, General Manager, added, "We felt it was important that our name is inclusive of all aspects of our community. While we certainly take an enormous amount of pride in our golf course, Renaissance offers much more than that. As we offer a wider range of services and experiences, we hope to continue to grow as a home-away-from-home for our members, their families and their guests."
Renaissance also recently announced the addition of two-time Southworth Senior PGA Professional National Championship winner Kirk Hanefeld to head up a new fully-equipped, state-of-the-art Golf Academy facility slated to start construction in the fall of 2012. In anticipation of the new facility, Renaissance has already started offering classes and programs to Renaissance members, members of other Southworth clubs, as well as the general public - anyone who seeks the very best in golf instruction.
Renaissance opened its new 30,000-square-foot Clubhouse in late November 2009. Keeping with early twentieth-century American shingle-style architecture, the Clubhouse is appointed with an eye toward casual elegance. The main floor of the Clubhouse includes the Grille Room, a full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a bar and lounge area; a private dining room for functions and business meetings; a Grand Ballroom accommodating up to 225 guests; a covered veranda overlooking the dramatic par-5 finishing hole; a billiards room; and a formal living room. Full service locker rooms, lounges and fitness area are located on the lower level. The upper level contains eight luxurious overnight Club Rooms for guests of members, wedding and bridal parties and members of other Southworth properties.
Located on Boston's North Shore, Renaissance is one of New England's premier private clubs, featuring Brian Silva's first Signature 18-hole championship golf course, extensive practice facilities, a stately new 30,000-square-foot American Shingle-Style Clubhouse with Grille Room, Fitness Center and eight luxurious overnight Club Rooms. Renaissance recently broke ground on a new $1.5 million swim and tennis facility. The Club offers golf, sports and social memberships and is owned and operated by affiliates of Southworth Development LLC of Newton, Massachusetts.
