New York, NY - IvyDate, the premier introduction network for smart, inspiring singles, has secured a $1.45 million Series A investment to accelerate its expansion into new markets. The round was backed by a prominent group of angel investors, including SecondMarket founder and CEO, Barry Silbert. The group's collective track record includes early investments in Uber, Spotify, and Facebook.
Following careers at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, Founders Beri Meric and Philipp Triebel spent a great deal of time at Harvard Business School researching the optimal way for great people to meet each other. Their solution was simple: a dating community that's as selective as the Ivy League, without being limited to the Ivy League.
In just 10 months of matching, IvyDate has established itself as a leading private community specializing in serving singles who value creativity, intellectual curiosity, and drive. "IvyDate is the gathering place for inspiring singles who are as interesting as they are smart," said IvyDate co-founder, Beri Meric. "In less than one year we have attracted nearly 30,000 of the world's most accomplished men and women - doctors, entrepreneurs, artists, lawyers, engineers, academics."
IvyDate maintains its high quality standard by employing a dedicated Membership Committee that evaluates each applicant based on a compelling set of interests, achievements, and values. Once approved, members receive hand-selected matches directly to their inbox every week. There is no vast database of profiles to browse. IvyDate members can only view and send messages to their own set of tailored matches, leading to more meaningful communication and quicker transitions to actual dates.
To further enhance the IvyDate experience, the service will soon offer personalized dating suggestions, on-call relationship experts and regular access to exclusive events at top venues. IvyDate's last four events attracted more than a two thousand of the most eligible singles in New York City, maxing out the capacity at swank venues like Trump Soho, Gansevoort Park Avenue, and Hudson Hotel.
At the core of IvyDate lies a radical entrepreneurial goal: bringing a deep, soulful edge into an industry that is often deemed mundane. IvyDate recently became the first dating service to launch its own think tank dedicated to love, managed by scholars from Stanford, Harvard and Brown. Called CheckMate, it combines intellectual rigor with wit, offering an original look at love and relationships through art, science and philosophy.
As Meric states, "Our members want to find love, but they also want to find out what love is all about. What we do is connect them with great dates, outstanding experiences, and fantastic content."
IvyDate members are currently concentrated in New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles, and the venture will soon be expanding into hub-cities world-wide.
