As people nationwide and worldwide commemorate Social Media Day 2012, San Carlos will celebrate the day by holding a week-long Treasure Hunt throughout downtown. Presented by the City of San Carlos and the local Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Roaring Pajamas, the purpose of the hunt is to educate business owners and the community and to promote the use of social media. Participants throughout the San Francisco Bay Area will solve clues found on the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce Twitter profile and post results to Instagram. The hunt begins Thursday, June 21, at the Social Media Day 2012 booth during Hot Harvest Nights Farmers' Market from 4-8 pm. The event climaxes with a drawing for prizes at the farmers' market on Thursday, June 28, at 7:15 pm. Prizes include a diamond pendant, flat screen TV, Giants tickets and more.
Both days, participants can get help navigating the tools needed for the hunt at the Social Media Day 2012 booth in the 700 block of Laurel St., in front of the downtown Laurel Street Park.
Clues will be posted throughout the week on Twitter @SanCarlosBiz. Participants will use the clues to identify local businesses they must visit in order to find a treasure to photograph and share on Instagram.
By 7 pm on June 28, participants who solve five or more clues must check in at the farmers' market Social Media Day 2012 booth to be eligible for a drawing. Entrants who solve all 10 clues will also receive an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing for a diamond pendant valued at $1000. Other prizes include Giants tickets, a baseball signed by the Giants' Brandon Belt, Electronic Arts video games, a Swivl Personal Cameraman, a week-long summer skateboard camp and a 32" flat screen TV.
"More and more businesses are acknowledging the importance of social media," remarked Chamber CEO David Bouchard, "and Social Media Day and the treasure hunt will help confirm it as we bring awareness of the impact social media has on the conduct of business and the economy."
Prize sponsors include Emkay Diamonds (grand prize), Best Buy, Electronic Arts, Sequoia Hospital, Satarii and Society Skate Shop.
